The state of play: London 2012 Olympics - ready or not?

UK business is waking up to the London 2012 opportunities and challenges.

In autumn 2010, an alarming picture emerged about UK businesses. Two thirds of those we spoke to said they expected no impact from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This was set against the background of businesses in previous host cities such as Sydney, Beijing and Vancouver admitting they underestimated the impact of the Games – on demand for their products and services, and on their ability to sustain business operations and meet the expectations of staff and customers.

At the time we issued a wake-up call, imploring businesses to think through the impacts of the Games on logistics, business continuity plan, and supply of goods and movement of staff. We were at pains to emphasise that the Games last for a combined 29 days over a six week period and that complacency could have significant repercussions at Games-time.
