Deal Drivers UK 2011 edition - An update into the M&A market

Welcome to this eighth edition of Deal Drivers UK. Several Months into 2011 it appears the UK M&A market is finally emerging from its protracted flat period. Comparing Q1 2010 to Q1 2011 shows deal volume increasing by 3.3% from 214 to 221 and aggregate deal volume increasing by 63.4% from £14bn to £23.2bn.

Trends in the UK M&A market tend to be sector-specific, but across the board 2011 is seeing a healthy level of involvement from strategic and financial buyers alike.

As is the case the Energy sector accounts for the lions share of aggregate M&A value in the UK at 34%, followed by the financial services sector which represents a considerable 16% slice.
